how can i tell if my 2002 ford explorer xlt has a factory amplified stereo?

I'm not sure if it does or not...

Is there a 8" subwoofer in the cargo area?

The premium system in the newer Explorers usually only uses an amplifier for a stock subwoofer. Even if the sub is present, the front and rear speakers are still running from the head unit.

If you don't have a subwoofer, then there's definitely not a factory amp.
