Top Miles
What are the top 5 cars that get the most miles per gallon?
and how much mpg do they get?
These are not listed in priority order, just the order I remembered them, however,
Best advertised miles in order of 'claims'= insight, civic, prius, golf, beetle, Jetta (I know I am listing 6, there's a reason)
best actual mileage. This is based on ACTUAL real world tests showing ACTUAL usage. : Golf + Beetle (tied for 1st), Civic, Insight, Prius, Jetta (5th place because of the golf/beetle tie)
Honda Insight Hybrid
Official Mileage = 60/66
Real World 44/40 (yes, it gets worse mileage on the highway, because it just can't handle highway driving, and has to run much more inefficiently to do so.)
1.0 Liter, 3 Cylinders, 73 HP @ 5700 RPM
Honda Civic Hybrid
Official = 49/51
Real World 42/45
1.3 Liter, 4 Cylinders, 110 HP @ 6000RPM
Volkswagen Golf TDI = Officially 37/44 = Real World, 43/49
1.9 Liter, 4 Cylinder, 100 HP @ 4000RPM (lower rpm peak means more real usable power)
Volkswagen Beetle TDI
Official Mileage = 37/44
Real World, 43/49
1.9 Liter, 4 Cylinder, 100 HP @ 4000RPM
Toyota Prius
Official Mileage = 60/51
Real World Mileage = 42/41
1.5 Liter, 4 Cylinder, 110 HP @ 5000 RPM
and, additionally, #6, because I own it (it's the only one that isn't designed for midgets)
Volkswagen Jetta
Officially 36/41
Real world, = 42/49
1.9 Liter, 4 Cylinder, 100 HP @ 4000RPM
I average... listen to me.. AVERAGE 49 in my 2003 Jetta TDI AUTOMATIC, and I live in florida, and always run the air.
I once drove 753 miles, and put in 14 gallons of diesel to refill the tank afterwards = 53.8 mpg.
Best mileage EVER was 59, but that was only across 228 miles (and 3.8 gallons)
The car I am looking forward to is the toyota camry DIESEL hybrid.
Mind you, an insight is liter, and flimsier than a prius.
