Speed Heated
How will a significant increase in cutting speed affect overall heat transfer during orthogonal cutting?
a. At higher cutting speeds a larger percentage of heat generated is carried away by the chip.
b. At higher cutting speeds a smaller percentage of heat generated is carried away by the chip.
c. At higher cutting speeds most of the heat generated is absorbed into the workpiece.
d. At higher cutting speeds only special coolants are able to carry away the excess heat that is generated.
The correct application of cutter selection, speeds, feed and coolants are critical for production productivity. Also, the material being machined.
Feeds and speeds used in machining are inter-related. There is a right combination of feed and speed, suitable for the combination of surface finish.
