Can a wireless card/usb make a difference on your internet's speed?

I have a belkin 54g (most basic) wireless card. The signal is always excellent, but it sometimes can get pretty slow. If I upgraded to a better card/usb would that make a difference in the speed of my downloads, etc.?

Dont bother because the router will only push out as much as the IPS will let you. Say you get 1.5 mb/s. Getting a new card that get 108 mb/s isnt going to do you any good because you are only getting 1.5 mb/s. Stick with what you have.
