Solara Convertible
What does a convertible top cover (for when the top is down) do?
2007 Solara convertible.
It came with a bulky, hard to use accessory that covers the convertible top when the top is down. Is this cover only for looks? Does it improve mpg? (it sticks up enough that I'm afraid it might hurt mpg). Does it keep dirt from getting into top joints?
I'm just curious if it has any real purpose. I do think it adds some visual appeal, but that's not worth the effort of putting it on/taking it off.
It helps prevent leaves and what not from getting stuck in the convertible recess area. I had the same thing for my 92 celica convertible and it will not do anything either way to effect MPG. Any reduction in MPG's is probably because with the top down you create an incredible amount of drag and resistance. That cover won't do anything, but be a pain in the rear to get off when you get stuck driving and a rain storm comes in.
