I have a sharp aquos with a digital cable box, ?

i let the tv tune the channels, but when i watch cable it says it is analog not digital on my tv, what am I doing wrong, or must I subscribe to hd cable service. thank you kindly for all answers.

Yes. You need to subscribe to the HD cable service to get the better picture. There is "standard" digital (what you have) and "HD" which is also digital, however it has more detail in the signal which gives you a better picture.

Also, it's very important that you connect the new HD box with either an HDMI calble (preffered) or with component cables.

You won't get a good pic with the Red,White & Yellow connections or with the F connection either. (the type you screw on)
