Wedding gifts & ettiquete?

Okay, here is what the fiance and I are arguing about. I registered for lots of stuff- including a weedwacker, lawnmower, and patio set. Well, I won some money at a draw unexpectedly. Weddnig stuff is pretty much paid for, so Iw ent ahead and bought a lawnmower, weedwacker, and patio set.
Fiance is all pissed because he says we should let other people buy those items for us, since our wedding is only like 6 weeks away. The thing is- we needed them now for backyard BBQs and showers that are coming up. To tidy up the yard and for seating. His mother yelled at me for buying stuff from the registry. I took them OFF the registry when I bought them so I don't see the big deal... she's also mad because they paid for the catering (not even CLOSE to what they paid for his sisters wedding!)- and now she is saying if they knew we had some $ they would have rather not paid for the caterer.... what gives?!

Umh--I bought half the stuff on our registry! Well I NEEDED some of those things since we just moved and nobody got them at my first shower--so I did! How long do you expect me to go without one of those things that holds the silverware in the drawer!? And as for the big stuff--a registry is for what you NEED AND/OR WANT! We had a firepit on ours and yes, some people from work went together and got it for us! I also had fire extinguishers on mine... Oh and I just bought the rugs for the bathroom last week--hello--we're having guests and I'd LIKE the house to look nice! I think you did fine and they are just feeling the need to b*tch about something....
