Is having remote start a good thing or bad thing?

I have heard that after a while it ruins your wiring and starts doing some serious damage. Is this true? What's the best kind of remote start brand recommended?

It depends on who does the installation... The places that usually sell those kits... have a bunch of hacks. If it is installed with inferior connectors, and wiring... it will promote corrosion in the wiring... leaving you all kinds of troubles in about 2 months.
