Preowned Sport
should i trade in my car?
i bought a car 2 years ago, its an 04 toyota corolla...sport edition. its pretty nice, about 45k miles no damage. i think i overpaid for it when i got it (preowned). it was around $15,500 and my rate was pretty low. My payments are about $300 per month right now and id like to pay the same or lower if possible. Can i trade it in for a new car, id like maybe a honda if possible. I still owe about $10,000 on the current car. Any advice?
also, i recently had a "bad" oil change at a jiffy lube and they had to replace my entire engine (didnt tighten the cap enough). So it has an engine with less miles on it than my original (about 30k).
seems pretty unanimous....to keep the car...thanks for the advice every1
Trying to keep your payments low is how you owe the same as the car is worth. Look at an amortization schedule. At the beginning of a loan you are paying mostly interest, only a little principal. If you want to just rent a car for a few years and trade it in all the time many companies will help you keep paying interest and never owning a car.
You asked for "any advice" Mine would be make extra payments, even $20 or $50 a mo. will pay off your loan sooner, and you will pay less interest. Keep the car until it is worth more than you owe and trade up. Try to get shortest loan you can afford, and pay it down fast.
Get a copy of the amortization schedule and see how much interest you are paying. see how much it would be if you pay it down $1,000.00. Making extra payments is the next best thing to a big down payment.
You could try listing the car for sale and see if you can get enough to pay the loan and have a down payment for a new car. Be careful of tradeins. If they give you full value for your car, they will not give the discounts the new car would have if you were buying it without trade in. Shop around and make an informed decision. Do not impulse buy,,,, that's where buyers remorse comes from.
