Good convertibles for a first car.?

Hi,
Im 17 and have been working for awhile and have decided to buy myself a car, nothing to special but i do want a convertible. I know is not practical espically in Canada but i have always loved them. Im on a tight budget so $10,000 at the MOST because I still need enough to cover insurance and gas.

So far I like the Honda del sol; the targa top and front-Wheel Drive seems better for winter and more secure.

I also like the Mazda miata, and the Toyota RAV4 soft top.

I cant afford the gas on a mustang, and mitsubishi eclipse quality seems questionable, so not to sure about those.

Anyone have other reccomendations or comments?

thanks in advance.

Yeah Mitsubishi Eclipses aren't reliable at all, almost all of the 90s ones suffer from crankwalk. Mustangs aren't all that bad on gas depending on what engine you get but it's pretty lame to get an I4 or V6 on one.

Honda Del Sols are nice, it makes parking a whole lot easier cause of it's size and same with the Miata though pretty sure a Del Sol gets better mileage and looks better than an old Miata.

Personally I'd rather have a Nissan 300ZX with a targa top or a Pontiac Firebird again with t-tops. Both are RWD and neither gets that great of gas mileage.

  1. I would go with the Miata – personally I like the look – fun to drive and ride in, too! If you go this route and are looking for a replacement top, I saw some on this site. Good luck deciding!
