Handicap Equipped
Is their deductions for parents?
My mother moved in with me and my husband last year due to the death of my father, she is disabled and does recieve SS every month, my question is with us primarily taking care of her is their some sort of deduction for us to take on our taxes this year for taking her in? We did have to remodel our basement for her and add a handicap equipped shower for her also since she is living downstairs and can't come to the upper level. I also clean for her and make all meals for her so I am wondering if we can get some kind of deduction.
Your mother may qualify as a relative if she had taxable income of under $3,650 (not counting income for services performed at a sheltered workshop for permanently and totally disabled workers). And if you provided over half her support for the year calculated mathematically.
