What is the difference between guarantee and extended warranty?

On this laptop I want to buy, it says free 2 year guarentee, but then under it, it says if I want to buy an "extended warranty for 3 years for £145"

£145 is for an EXTRA year of protection on the laptop. It looks steep, but most laptops fail within 3 years of heavy usage.

You can invest that money to buy a new laptop in 2+ years or buy the warranty. 2 Years is very good. Most manufacturers give 1 year.
