Door Hard
One of the doors in my house is suddenly hard to close. How can this be? The door frame has moved?
By "hard to close" i mean that when i try to shut the door, the area where the door handle is rubs against the door frame. And over the last 4 days it seems to have got harder to squeeze the door in everyday. It now takes a firm push to shut a door that last week was easy to shut. I am thinking that the door frame has bent. Does the house need a new door frame. Have you experienced this before?
Don had a great answer but instead of the top screw, make sure it's the screw closes to the stop to make sure you hit the stud. You may even want to angle the screw towards the stop just a TINY bit to ensure you hit the stud. Even though you can reach the screw with out a ladder, you may want a small step ladder. You'll need to put a lot of pressure on the screw but you want to minimize the chances of stripping the head. You may even want to rest your back on the opposing jam. Not only are you trying to tighten the hinge you are trying to pull the jam a little closer to the stud. Also, you need to make sure the hole you drill through the jam is BIGGER than the threads on the screw(but only through the jam!)
If that's not enough, you can do the same thing to the strike plate.
