Coupe Deville
will a 350 small block chevy engine fit my 1968 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, with the original transmission?
I realize that that some welding will be needed to be done so that the engine can be mounted on the frame but is this possible, ive been told it is. The thing of it is, is that the engine I have now, a 472 V8 that it was made with is running but has a bad knock and a terrible noise, and a rebuild will cost close to $4000 so I need to find a smaller engine that will drive well and work for the car while i work on it. And not sure if I will need a different transmission if i get a different engine too.
If you opt to swap out for ANY Chevy engine you will need to get a transmission as well. Both the Chevy BIG-block and SMALL-block V8s use a different and exclusive to Chevy only bellhousing bolt pattern. All other GM engines use the the "BOP" (Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac) bellhousing bolt pattern. You might want to consider going with a BIG-block 396-427-454 engine for your application, due to the weight and size of your ride. I don't think a 350 SMALL-block will be enough to move your 5000 lbs. boat.
