Clean Miles
2005 Mazda RX8 should i buy? 40k miles clean car fax never had recall or anything. sound good?
A local BMW dealer has the car for sale, i figured by 40k it woulda had the engine recall already so do you guys think its ok now?
Get the VIN# and go check with a Mazda dealership to see what they have on the car.
There are 2 main recalls for the '05s. One is an engine check (compression and vacuum leakdown test) and the other was for heat shielding for the exhaust. You can also make sure the car qualifies for the factory-extended core motor warranty of 8 year/100K miles. If it qualifies and everything else looks good then you should be safe to purchase.
Since you don't know how the motor was cared for it would be good to assume it may have some carbon build-up issues. If the motor was tested a while ago you may want to have it done again. Then I'd recommend doing a carbon clean up (kits available from Mazda) or hitting the highway for a good 6+ hour run to burn off any deposits that could cause problems. Carbon build-up is a killer of rotary engines.
