Cab Prerunner
I have a '01 tacoma. Is there a better truck at this time?
I have a 4 cy. extended cab automatic tacoma prerunner which has 80k miles and has been prefect for me. I'm thinking about a new one but can I improve on this one? Is it true that my 4 cy. does not need a timing belt change at 90K miles? Is it a problem to have after market cruise control installed? Other than that I would only want to improve the handling in snow. I use chains when necessary but what a drag to install. Is 4 wd worth $5k?
There are a lot of factors that would weigh on an answer to this question. Sure, a newer version is usually better, but are you currently making payments on your 01? If not, plan to be paying $300-$400 (or more) a month for a new one. A timing belt change is a lot cheaper than a new truck- look in the owner's manual and it will tell you when you need to change it. Also, if you load up your bed during the winter with bricks or something else heavy, your RWD will greatly improve in the snow. "Better" is always a subjective term. You have to weigh out all your options.
