Auto Cold
Auto trans rough shift / hard to shift when the car is cold?
My VW beetle 00 has a new transmission and 3 new motor mounts from the dealer 6 months ago. Sometimes my transmission shift roughly / delay shift when the engine is cold (cold means I park my car for at least 3-4 hours, or even the whole night), especially shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. When I drive for .5 miles, the transmission would shift normal and smooth, and there will have no problems.
Is that normal?
Would rough shift damage motor mounts?
cold as in 20 degree would be more like it but now no, i would have the transmission fluid and filter changed and see if that helps and hopefully it does. my old jeep did that in the winters for 5 years before it gave away so just try the fluid change, let it warm up good in the morning and you should be alright. see in your auto transmissions you have a torque converter( it is kinda like a clutch) it sats in between your motor and transmission and is like a big pump. it slips untill it builds up pressure and then your transmission operates, some colder morning it just takes longer to warm up
